Sabrina's Cookbook
(Introduction by Sabrina)

Over the past two years I have begged and begged for human food.  My parent's never fed me anything from their table.  Then, when I was visiting Grandma, she fed me all sorts of fun things from her kitchen!  I never let mom and dad forget this and now they have a difficult time not feeding me some of their food.

They tell me that they are very careful in selecting what I can and cannot eat.   Two of their favorite things, I am told, are dangerous if not lethal to me: chocolate and coffee.  I think they are making this up to keep from having to share, but that's ok - I like what they give me.  Ice cubes and carrots are my favorites, but there isn't much I won't eat!

Lately, daddy has gathered some interesting recipes for dogs like me.  He hasn't made them all, but he says he will.  The recipe gathering began when I told him that my friends like Frosty Paws, ice cream for dogs, but they aren't sold in New York City.   He found a recipe for some homemade doggie ice cream and thus began the recipe collection.  I have asked him to put them here, even if we haven't tried them yet.   I'll give my reviews when I do!

Cool Waggers

Ingredients:
4oz. of water*
8 oz of yogurt (one small container)*
1 banana

Using a blender mix the ingredients until smooth. Then freeze. Containers
for freezing that have been suggested include small paper cups, cut in half;
muffin tins; ice cube trays; etc. If you use the paper cups, you'll want to
remove them before feeding this stuff to your dogs, or they might eat the
cups! If you use muffin tins, you might try spraying them with a nonstick
cooking spray first.

* These amounts were doubled from the original recipe. If you don't like
the results you get, you might try cutting them in half.

The yogurt can be any flavor you like (I don't know if chocolate yogurt is
safe for dogs, though). Strawberry is a popular choice.

Stuffed Bones
(Thanks to Jane Betz from the Border Collie mailing list)

Bones (with hollow cavities) - If using marrow bones, remove marrow before proceeding.
1 carrot
1 potato
1 can chicken broth
Water

Boil the carrot and potato in the broth diluted with water until vegetables
are soft.  Separately, boil the bones to sterilize and soften them (so they
won't splinter.)   After the bones are cool enough to touch, mash up the
vegetables and stuff the bones.  Freeze the bones until stuffing is hard.
Serve directly from the freezer.

Variation: After filling the bones, seal the ends with peanut butter before freezing.
