Freedom's Vow

Darkness pulled across the land
The Winter’s Storm was close at hand
Trees and shrubs had felt the chill
And children’s eyes grew ever still.
As parents took their stand.

They stood in defense of this Winter’s Storm
Leaving sons and daughters alone in their dorm
They held secret weapons that nobody knew;
And how to use them - they hadn’t a clue.
Protecting their first born.

The Storm came through and wouldn’t yield
It killed the parents it killed the field
And after that it just died down
Quiet in a small Middle Eastern town.
And done was Desert Shield.

The children watched with great despair
As dead parents returned without hair
The reality hit and they saw the gloom
As they realized this Winter Storm’s true doom.
Fallout filled the air.

It snowed all night it snowed all day
Children searched where the bodies lay
They cried out, "Why?" They screamed out, "How?"
"Is this the cost of Freedom’s Vow?"
The A-bomb never pays.
